  1. It was a wonderful piece of work. I once had a memorable experience with a fortune cookie. Elaine and I had a small business years ago–that way we didn’t need to teach summer school which neither of us liked. A young man from Seattle whom I had known for years and who was having financial trouble came to Fargo. We went to the only Chinese restaurant in town, Phil Wongs, and he filled the evening telling me how I could pay him money and he would repay it in multiples. He could see I was suspicious. We eventually opened our fortune cookies, one said, “Beware of financial opportunities offered by friends.” It was so uncomfortable neither of us could laugh.
