Thanks to Richard Shafer for inviting me to talk with his Introduction to Mass Communications students yesterday at UND. I told them everything I know about broadcast news. That didn’t take long so we played a round of Richard’s infamous Knowledge Bowl. I got to play the role of Alex Trebek. The irony that Jeopardy! is opposite WDAZ News @5 was not lost on me.
So anyway, students get five points toward their grade for correctly answering current event questions. (They also get five points for showing up and playing the game.) A couple of the correct answers yesterday were Bobby Brown and underwear. (They were separate answers to different questions, by the way.)
But my favorite question/answer exchange is below:
Me: Last week Dave Hakstol made a statement that the North Dakota law mandating the Fighting Sioux nickname harms UND. Who is Dave Hakstol?
Student: I have absolutely no idea.
