The death of Elizabeth Taylor this week, sad as it is, means the retirement of one of my favorite jokes. For years–and I mean years–to open speeches, I’ve been telling the Liz Taylor joke.
The joke is so old I don’t even know who I stole it from. I believe Ms. Taylor would approve. It goes like this:
I’m a little nervous this evening. I feel a little bit like Elizabeth Taylor’s latest husband. I know what I’m supposed to do, I’m just not sure I can make it interesting.
God bless you, Liz.
Terry, the first time I heard that joke, it was about another of your favorites, Zsa Zsa Gabor!
