Skidding to Hawley

Lots of ice on Interstate-29 and Highway-10 on my way to Hawley yesterday.  Even a couple of scary roll-overs on each.  I didn’t mind the weather, though.  I found that skidding to Hawley and back helps increase my gas mileage.

Had a great time talking with about two hundred teachers from Hawley, Uland-Hitterdal and Lake Park.  While their students had the day off for Martin Luther King Day, they got together to learn some things to help them in the classroom.  Teacher stuff.

They had a number of terrific presenters, I understand, but saved the best for last.  Then they tacked me on at the end.

I tried to impart wisdom and humor is somewhat equal portions.  In my little talk I quoted Ian Brennan, the co-creator of the enormously popular television series “Glee.”  In accepting a Golden Globe for his show the night before in Hollywood, Mr. Brennan said, “I just want to say thank you to public school teachers.  You don’t get paid like it, but you’re doing the most important work in America.”

I couldn’t have said it any better. So, I didn’t even try.
