This was graduation day at Northland Community and Technical College in East Grand Forks. I know because I gave the commencement address at the school’s graduation ceremonies at the Chester Fritz Auditorium this morning. Grads, faculty, staff, family and friends filled the Fritz nearly to capacity.
I quoted, or misquoted, among others, Laura Ingraham, Robert Fulghum and the great philosopher Ferris Beuhler who once said, "Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
Thanks to Northland’s Dr. Hank Roerich for the invitation and to Kent Hanson for the introduction, and to everyone there for putting up with me. It was an honor.
To everyone in the Class of 2010, congratulations.
Sidebar: I was having lunch about an hour after the ceremonies when one of the lenses fell out of my glasses. If that had happened a little earlier Northland would have had a very different kind of commencement address.
