It’s always fun to have Mark Stutrud with us on WDAZ News @5. And not just because he always brings along some of his product with him. Mark is a North Dakota native and the founder of Summit Brewing Company of St. Paul. Mark has a great sense of humor and doesn’t seem to take himself very seriously. He calls himself a beer lover, first and foremost. Not that his company isn’t successful. It is. Next year Summit will celebrate its twenty-fifth year in the brewing business.
On this visit we talked about Summit’s new line of limited release beers called the Unchained Series. Each of Summit’s six brewers is encouraged to showcase his skill and creativity. The brewers have complete control over the product including procuring the beer’s raw materials and even designing the bottles’ label. Mark claims not to have veto power over their decisions. I tasted the second in the series, brewer Eric Blomquist’s Scottish Style which includes Scottish heather. Have I ever mentioned I love my job?
Mark is a guest of Happy Harry’s Bottle Shop in Grand Forks this week. In just the first few weeks that Greg Rixen of Happy Harry’s has been appearing on News @5 with us on Thursdays, I’ve already learned more about beer, wine and spirits than I ever thought I would.
