This evening on WDAZ News @5 Greg Rixen discussed Boulevard Brewery’s limited edition “Smokestack Series” beer. Boulevard is located in Kansas City, Missouri, and is well known for their great Wheat Beer, but has now started brewing some special edition releases.
Here are the beers:
Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale
Farmhouse 7 is named after the particular fermenter used at the brewery. This Belgian-style ale begins with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes. This complex, straw colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.
Double Wide India Pale Ale
India Pale Ales were originally created when sailors wanted to take beer on long, hot ocean voyages. Hops are a natural preservative in beer and when used aggressively, can protect beer from heat damage. Boulevard’s Double Wide IPA uses 6 different hops creating a very lively, citrus driven beer balanced with a rich, malty flavor.
Long Strange Tripel
This is a Trappist-style ale. Tripel refers to the fact that the brewer uses 3 times more malt when compared to most other beers. What you will taste is a caramel sweetness along with creamy, hearty flavor that will keep you warm all winter long.
The Sixth Glass Quadrupel Ale
This is another Trappist-style ale, but now we have a quadrupel. Boulevard uses 2300 pounds of malt and 350 pounds of golden and brown sugars in each batch. The Sixth glass is a bold, rich beer that is very approachable. It is creamy with flavors of fig, raisin and chocolate. Quadrupel ales can be served similar to wine with a great meal and can age for up to 10 years.
