My current wife Ginny always gets me the most interesting birthday presents. I highly recommend being married to her.
One of my favorite gifts this year is Jukebox by Bachman Cummings. It’s a collection of rock ‘n roll tunes Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings listened to on CKY, CKRC and CJOB growing up in Winnipeg like "Don’t Talk To Him" by Cliff Richard & The Shadows, "Who Do You Love" by Bo Diddley and "Yeh, Yeh" by Georgie Fame. It also includes "American Woman 2007" which is very unlike the Guess Who or Lenny Kravitz versions.
The CD’s artwork and design are great, too. The album’s songs are illustrated on the back cover as the kind of paper tabs that used to be inserted into jukebox "menus."
The former Guess Who singer-songwriters have been performing together as Bachman Cummings for a couple of years now. Photographer Chris Regimbal and I were lucky enough to sit in as Bachman and Cummings rehearsed songs from the CD for a Winnipeg benefit back in February just before Jukebox was released. (Sometimes this job is just too tough.)
