Tom Brosseau

I just can’t get over how good Tom Brosseau is.  Tom is a singer and a songwriter, a Grand Forks native whose new CD "Grand Forks" was released this week.  He performed a song from it yesterday on News @5, "Plaid Lined Jacket" about homelessness.  To say I was blown away would be the understatement of the week.

He’s appearing at the Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks tonight at 7:30.  Two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn, who performs on a couple of the songs of the new CD, will be at the Empire as well.  I can’t be there.  I wish I could.

Tom lives in LA, but he said yesterday he didn’t spend much time there last year, he’s been touring so much.  He has spent a number of weeks in Europe where his music is known and where he has a following.

Inspired by the 1997 flood, "Grand Forks" has gotten excellent reviews.  His voice and his music are simply unique.  I’ve known his folks forever.  Tom Brosseau is the real deal.

Anon… I was also impressed by Tom’s knowledge of music history. After talking with him for him for awhile (during commercial breaks, mostly), it’s clear to me he understands the musical tradition he is a part of. He also seems to be a nice, decent young man. I hope the music industry treats him decently.

Terry, I was struck by how humble he was. He sat down with a few of us studio crew-ers and asked us about ourselves.

I received 1 st loan when I was very young and that aided me a lot. Nevertheless, I require the car loan again.
